The Road To Hardcore Punk
June 5, 2006When I was twelve, I disliked house music. With the repetitive beats and no vocals it seemed mindless and plain stupid. But over the years, I've learned to appreciate electric music. This was mostly 'cause of my friends encouraging me to listen to it. In the end, I didn't listen to anything else anymore. But I still felt some sort of stupidity in the music. Soon I started hating DJs like 'The felix project', DJ Coone, etc. Actually the whole harddance-scene. I started listening to more mature electric music, such as funkyhouse, electro and trance. I've got some compilations from well-known labels such as Hed Kandi and Ministry of Sound and they are the best of its kind.
I like to play computer-games from time to time. And what's more fun than watching 'pro' gamers perform in amazing fan videos? While watching "Walking in the air", I noticed that the music was very fitting. The hard rocking music wasn't really something I was familiar with, mostly 'cause I didn't care. But in fact band such as Disturbed and Bullet For My Valentine do have some bad-ass music. Trough that video I have learned to appreciate this 'new' kind of music. I listened to their albums and a.t.m. they are one of my favorites.
But since I've met Karolien, I broadened my mind. She's an emogirl and likes to listen to bands such as From Autumn To Ashes and The Used. The typical emo music. When I downloaded some tracks I was overwhelmed by the continuous loud screams. I couldn't understand a word from it, so my first impression was a bit negative. But after reading the lyrics I sort of understood why the performers have to scream. It's just totally emo
.
While getting to know the rock and emo scene, I stumbled upon Pandora. It's like a personal DJ that helps you in discovering bands you like based upon your favorite tracks. Using that amazing web-tool I 'discovered' bands such as Breaking Benjamin, Ill Nino, Nickelback and Linkin Park.
After all these new genres I now mostly listen to punk-rock, hardcore punk (including emo) and lounge, funkyhouse and electro. I'm still evolving into new stuff so I might have to edit this post in the near future
.
To all harddance people out there: there's more and better music in the world, all you got to do is try it out. Listen to all different kind of genres and find out what you really like, without the influence of the people surrounding you.
